On February 6th 2026, I had the pleasure of co-organizing, together with Sarah Ahannach and Ludovica Marinelli, the very first Belgian Microbiome Network symposium at the University of Antwerp.
A great day of talks and discussion around the state of microbiome science in Belgium. A strong start for this initiative, and I’m looking forward to seeing where we take it from here.

Thank you to our speakers Jeroen Raes, Laure Bindels, Sarah Lebeer, Sofie Goormachtig, Isabelle George, Christophe Courtin, Bas Teusink, and Sam Possemiers, and to everyone who joined the conference. This was just the start of a new community for microbiome science and innovation in Belgium.
